Freestanding bathtub – conglomerate or acrylic?

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

The bathroom is the room where functionality must go hand in hand with safety and aesthetics. When arranging this room, we increasingly opt for free-standing bathtubs. Among the most popular models are those made of acrylic and conglomerate. We suggest which material is worth choosing.

Although the shower seems to be a more practical solution, bathtubs are still very popular. In modern arrangements, you can often find free-standing models made of acrylic or conglomerate. We look at both of these materials, checking their advantages and disadvantages.

Acrylic freestanding bathtub

Acrylic bathtubs are formed from acrylic sheets at 180℃. It is a very lightweight material, but is distinguished by its strength. Its greatest advantage can be considered the fact that it retains heat. Thus, the surface of the bathtub will not be cold, and the water will remain pleasantly warm for longer. Importantly, acrylic exhibits anti-slip properties, so it is a safe material that will work especially well in the bathroom, where it is easy to slip. It is also worth noting that acrylic bathtubs do not require time-consuming and powerful scrubbing, which means that we can easily keep them clean. We can wash them with detergents available on the market. In addition, acrylic bathtubs are available in many shapes and even colors. Some models have headrests, shelves or profiled seats, which increase the comfort of use.

However, we must still mention the disadvantages of acrylic bathtubs. First of all, they are not very resistant to scratches or impacts and are easily damaged mechanically. In addition, they tend to crack and yellow. Before buying, it is worth studying the thickness of the bathtub shell to make sure that you choose a top-quality model.

Freestanding bathtub made of conglomerate

Conglomerate is a combination of stone and polyester resin. It comes in three varieties: granite, quartz and marble. Thus, the material is distinguished by its natural origin, which can be of particular importance for those who value ecological solutions. The biggest advantage of bathtubs made of conglomerate is their exceptional durability and resistance to all kinds of mechanical damage. The smooth surface of the material does not allow lime deposits and other impurities to adhere to it for a long time. Such bathtubs are also available in many shapes and colors.

And what about the disadvantages? First of all, we must mention that freestanding bathtubs made of conglomerate require regular maintenance. It is not enough that we wipe them with a cloth with any preparation. Special agents will be needed for cleaning, so that the bathtub will not lose its natural luster. For busy people, this can be a daunting enough disadvantage.

Both acrylic and conglomerate bathtubs have their advantages and disadvantages. We should tailor the choice of model to individual needs and expectations. If we care about ease of cleaning and aesthetic qualities, then an acrylic bathtub will be a better choice. It is also worth betting on such a model when we have small children, due to its anti-slip properties. If durability and resistance to scratches and any mechanical damage are more important to us, then opt for a bathtub made of conglomerate.
