Living room lighting – what lamps to choose?

It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

Lamps in the apartment are no longer just a source of light, but increasingly also an important decorative element. Check how to choose the cheap, and at the same time functional and aesthetic.

Hanging lamps

Before you move on to determine the color scheme and style of the chandelier, determine the height of the room in which you will hang it. If the ceiling is low, crystal and serpentine models may not be advisable. The optimal height for a hanging lamp is about 2 meters above the floor, and if a table will be placed directly under it, it should be at least 1.5 meters. The lamp shade must not illuminate the room unevenly

Manufacturers offer lampshades and lampshades in a variety of styles and colors, so you are sure to find the one that fits your living room perfectly. If you have a reading corner, for example, you’ll need an extra, more practical lamp.

Ceiling lights

A ceiling lamp is hung very close to the ceiling, so you don’t have to worry that a poorly chosen one will interfere with a low living room or that the cable leading to it will look unattractive. It can have from one to several bulbs, which, directed to different places, will illuminate well the entire living room. You can choose from multicolored lampshades, minimalist structures and metal frames with rich ornaments.

Wall lamps

Wall lamps usually serve as an additional and decorative source of light. They are installed on walls without furniture. They give subdued light, which gives the room a characteristic atmosphere. They work especially well in a large living room, creating a pleasant twilight in it after dark. Diffused light from such a lamp will perfectly fit into a wall arrangement consisting of photographs, posters, paintings or mirrors. On the other hand, open wall lamp will work as additional lighting of a darkened place in the living room.

Standing lamps

An unquestionable advantage of standing lamps is their mobility. Thanks to the fact that they can be easily moved to another place, their location can be adjusted to the rest of the furniture, and not the other way around. Most often it is bought with a view to creating a comfortable reading corner

If you want to illuminate the entire interior and optically enlarge it, decide on a standing lamp with a transparent lampshade. An illuminated lampshade decorated with small patterns will be an additional decoration of a living room. The one directed downwards will make the room seem lower, and the one directed upwards – higher. A low lamp will be a good solution when you place it near the TV. It will introduce a pleasant atmosphere and make your eyes look less strained.

Desk lamps

Due to the lack of space (usually in small apartments) a living room has a function of an office or a studio at the same time. In case of desk lamps, their look (usually minimalist-industrial) becomes less important – functionality is the most important thing. After all, we use them mainly for reading, studying and working

Models equipped with dimmers, which allow you to adjust the brightness of light to the type of work, are gaining popularity. This is a very convenient solution and – above all – good for the eyes. Similarly important are adjustable arm and lampshade.

LED lighting

LEDs can really save you money – because they’re energy efficient, they use up to 90% less energy than traditional bulbs. They also need replacing much less often. They can be used as single spot lights, as well as in ceiling lights, standing lamps, pendant lights and wall sconces.

What to choose?

First of all, determine what function of a lamp is the most important for you – what you will use it for and what your expectations are. Is the living room for you only a space to relax, which will guarantee you a pleasant twilight, or is it also to serve as a place of other activities? Also consider the size of the windows in your living room and which side they face. The question of light bulbs remains, as they will save you a lot of money if you choose environmentally friendly LED bulbs.
